Hi! My name is Val, I'm 19 and a sophomore at Macalester College. This page is a physical habitation for my thoughts, a place to connect and recieve attention lol. I like building websites, photography, data science, and overthinking in a good way. This site is a place for my projects, writing, and weird rabbit holes.
Current dilemma (7/29): trying to decide whether I should buy two albums. This website doubles as my "please don't let me make impulsive purchases" journal.
Side note: Trying to make more stuff by myself so things may be a bit slow for a while.
I really love music, I mean any kind of music except maybe reggae, it's just too slow for me. But I really love Midwest Emo, Jazz, Pop, and Rock.
My favorite dish has got to be my mom's lasagna, I've tried storebought lasagna and other's but my mom's lasagna will always be my favorite! I have to learn how to cook just to learn that recipe!
Part of being a Midwest emo fan must be loving Fall and Winter or at least Halloween/Thanksgiving being my favorite holidays?. Moving to Minnesota taught me I hate the cold and I love it at the same time, it's too cold, but it looks so good or maybe the campus is just too pretty to be beat by silly season conditions.
I feel like I'm too old to get really into skateboarding (is that the term?) but I really want to learn. Not good at instruments, but I want to git gud at the drums and I love singing although I am tone-deaf (music wise). I'm also trying to get way more into photography because I can command my phone pretty well but a DSLR or film camera would be so fucking cool to mess with. Oh shit, also I love playing video games (wink wink Steam Deck user) and trying to get more into triple-A games.
First year was overwhelming, so didn't join many clubs but this year I really want to get more involved. I want to attend more Questbridge and Latinx Student Union events and maybe also join DND club and photography club!
I got this really cool job as a Digital Resource Center Assistant which will involve digitizing VHS tapes!!! So effing excited. But also hope I don't fall into the same hole I did last semester. Natural segway into dislikes?? ;>
Drinks over dessert always, but I don't like matcha, coffee or smoothies with betabel (aka beetroot ~ Mexican). "Betabel is good for you", yeah I know, still doesn't taste good man.
Biggest pet peeve about jobs: miscommunication or feeling left out maybe. But I guess feeling left out is the worst part of everything, not just jobs. People make jobs worth it at least to me, so I like talking to people and feeling left out just makes me feel shit, but doesn't everyone? lol.
